A Taste of Amarante, Portugal

This is a special opportunity to discover the gastronomic delights of Porto, Portugal and the Douro valley from our base in the historic town of Amarante, Portugal, just 25 minutes from Porto airport.. Amarante, first settled in the 4th century BC, is situated in the rich northern agricultural lands of the Minho region and is the perfect place to discover the “real Portugal”. You will switch off the stress in Amarante and relax in your superior quality bedroom at the 5-star Casa da Calçada hotel, the hotel, originally built in the 16th century to be one of the main palaces of the Count of Redondo, is today a member of the Relais & Chateaux group of luxury hotels.

Highlights of the Amarante trip include a visit to the Douro Valley where you will be a guest of a wine-making Quinta, a boat cruise on the Douro River, dinner at the Michelin star Largo do Paço restaurant, a visit to the Grahams’ Port Cellar and a guided tour of the beautiful city of Porto.

Amarante is located close by the Douro River valley (a World Heritage site). The region is where the heralded brand names such as Graham, Taylor, Croft, Dow and Sandeman (among others) have their vast Quintas for growing grapes.
